devTopBars is a Mac menu-bar app published by Halfmarble LLC (“halfmarble”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains how devTopBars handles your information. It covers the version from the Mac App Store and its TestFlight beta.
The short version: devTopBars itself collects no data about you. It makes two kinds of network request, described below, and neither sends us anything. If you test a beta through TestFlight, or share analytics with app developers, Apple shares some information with us, as described below. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking in the app.
None through the app. devTopBars reads its readings (CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, memory, disk, battery, Wi-Fi, network addresses and your running processes) from macOS on your Mac and shows them to you. It does not send them to us or to anyone. It does not track you across other apps or websites. What Apple may share with us is under “TestFlight” and “Analytics shared by Apple”.
devTopBars makes only these two requests. Like any request on the internet, each one shows the server your public IP address. Each also carries the name “devTopBars” as its user agent, and the standard details macOS adds to a request, which may include your preferred language. devTopBars adds nothing else about you.
The usage bars are fed by the free usage-feed plugin, which you install yourself in Claude Code. For each running session, the plugin sends devTopBars its title (which Claude Code may write from your conversation), its project folder name, model, effort, context-window use, cost, session length, usage limits and state. It sends them over a connection that stays on your Mac (a local socket inside devTopBars’ own app container). It sends no prompt text, tool input or transcript, and devTopBars does not send any of this anywhere. Without the plugin, nothing is sent to these bars.
Your settings and the last usage reading are stored locally on your Mac by macOS. They never leave your Mac through devTopBars.
devTopBars is a paid app. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; devTopBars never receives your payment information.
If you test a beta of devTopBars through TestFlight, Apple automatically collects crash logs and usage information (such as installs and sessions) and shares them with us, along with any feedback you choose to send. If we invited you by email, this information can carry your name and email address; if you joined through a public link, it does not. TestFlight is run by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We use this information only to fix and improve devTopBars, and we share it with no one.
If you choose, in your Mac’s settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also share crash and usage data from the App Store version with us. We use it in the same way and share it with no one.
We keep the information Apple shares with us only while we need it to fix and improve devTopBars. To have yours deleted, email support@halfmarble.com: we will delete what we hold and tell you about anything we cannot remove. To stop sharing, stop testing the beta in the TestFlight app, or turn off sharing with app developers in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements. Your settings stay on your Mac; we never see them, and you can remove them yourself.
devTopBars contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking code. The only third parties it contacts are ipify and GitHub, as described above, and only for those two requests.
devTopBars does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. The app itself collects no personal information from children (or adults); what Apple may share with us is described above.
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
