01What halfmarble is

halfmarble is a patient-led effort building deterministic, traceable ("Glass Box") tools for continuous, real-world measurement of Parkinson's: medication pharmacokinetics, objective motor function, and metabolic / bioenergetic state. We are the measurement layer — the instrument that helps tell whether an intervention is working in daily life — not a treatment. Everything is positioned under the FDA 2019 General Wellness Policy; halfmarble does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Maturity, stated plainly: the software measurement tools (the SteadyDoseTracker levodopa-PK visualization, SteadyFastingTracker, SteadyHeartBeat) are available today — as web tools, and a SteadyHeartBeat public beta on request — or in active development. The UnSteadyRing sensing hardware — finger rings + wrist hubs + an ankle hub for gait and freezing-of-gait — is in early R&D (design stage); no device is built yet. We will not present it as further along than it is.

02What we measure

Full, field-by-field data dictionary — what is collected, what stays on device, and what could ever be shared — is published in our Glass Box data policy.

03Data governance & privacy

• Local-first. By default, health data stays on the user's device and is computed there; raw data is never required to leave it.
• Opt-in, per category. Any sharing is the user's explicit choice, never a condition of using halfmarble.
• Aggregate-only. Only aggregates leave — never raw traces, never individual-level records.
• Differential privacy under a single budgeted total ε accounted across all releases (not a fresh budget per query), computed on-device or via federated analytics where possible. Grouping is a step inside this mechanism, not a standalone guarantee.
• Never sold; no individual re-identification. If halfmarble were ever acquired by an entity that would not uphold these standards, user data is purged.

04Research status & IRB

To be candid: there is no IRB-approved data-sharing program in place today, and halfmarble has not run formal validation studies of its measures against clinical scales. Any future research data sharing would be opt-in, IRB-approved, and aggregate-only. We are actively seeking the right IRB pathway and partners to do this properly.

05How we'd like to work with researchers

• Scientific gut-check — is an open, real-world measurement layer genuinely useful to your work, and where are we missing the mark?
• Validation collaboration — concurrent-validity work for the digital measures (e.g., against MDS-UPDRS Part III), done rigorously.
• Fit with existing cohorts / digital-endpoint efforts — where a deterministic, patient-owned readout could complement what you already run.
• Endpoint co-design — help shape what the platform should capture to be decision-informing.

06Open science & IP

Glass Box. Algorithmic logic is deterministic and traceable to peer-reviewed science — no opaque models for clinical features. The site and tools are open for independent review on GitHub.

IP. Seventeen provisional patent applications have been filed across the sensing architecture — defensively, so that no company can lock these tools away from patients. The intent is to keep the architecture open and, in time, steward the IP through a non-profit.
